The Building Performance Industry Has A Workforce Shortage

Here’s some good news: the energy efficiency and building performance industry is growing. According to the 2024 U.S. Energy and Employment Report, the clean energy job sector accounted for just under 5% of all new jobs in the U.S. This includes employment in energy efficiency jobs such as energy assessment and skilled workers in efficiency installs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and renewables. The energy efficiency sector incorporating these jobs is predicted to grow another 7 to 10% in the coming year.

Here’s some bad news: skilled workers are hard to find. This will not come as a shock to any manager or owner trying to hire capable employees right now. The same Energy and Employment Report reported that 84% of employers expressed difficulty in hiring qualified workers.

At Blue Sky Training we want to bridge the gap between workforce shortage and skill by providing training to anyone looking to enter the field. You can be a part of this mission. Starting the journey can be difficult for anyone even without financial barriers. We need help reducing the challenge of financial cost, so students can instead focus on reaching the peak of their new profession.
